Product highlights and buying context
The Sky-Watcher HEQ5-R Pro Equatorial GoTo Mount with Tripod quickly and smoothly slews to more than 42,000 night sky objects and tracks with precision for observation and long-exposure astrophotography. It can be controlled via built-in Wi-Fi from your computer or smart device, by cable from your computer, or with the SynScan hand controller. ST-4 and USB ports accept signal from an optional autoguider camera on your optical tube assembly to keep your subject in frame amid the apparent movement of the stars. The mount can be polar-aligned via SynScan in the event Polaris isn't clearly visible.
A sturdy tripod with 1.75-inch rolled steel legs and a metal accessory try supports the HEQ5-R. Included are two 11-pound counterweights with a retractable bar and a Losmandy/Vixen style saddle.
For novice users, the user-friendly menu allows automatic slewing to 42,900+ objects. Even an inexperienced astronomer can master its variety of features in a few observing sessions. The hand controller can be connected to a PC using the built-in USB-B port and a USB-B cable (not included). PC control can be done with SynScan Pro for Windows app or your favorite third-party software with the correct drivers.
Even without a clear view of Polaris, the HEQ5-R Pro can be polar aligned using the SynScan hand controller. Simply choose one of the visible stars listed and use the latitude adjustment screws to center it in the eyepiece.
A retractable counterweight bar is supplied, allowing for easier transportation. Two 11-pound counterweights are also included to help balance up to a 33-pound payload. The HEQ5-R Pro features a saddle compatible with both D- and V-style mounting plates, allowing users the flexibility to utilize multiple optical tubes, even if the mounting plate is different.
