Product highlights and buying context
Providing the flexibility to accommodate camera-mount or boompole microphone operation for mobile journalists, vloggers, and run-and-gun videographers who need a versatile shotgun mic setup that works with any camcorder or HDSLR camera, this Fotohaus Klinger Kit features the Rode VideoMic battery-powered shotgun microphone with a selectable pad and bass roll-off, the Rode Micro Boompole telescoping boompole, and a 10' 3.5mm TRS extension cable. The microphone incorporates a foam windscreen to reduce noise from light wind and a Rycote Lyre shockmount to reduce vibration noise.
Compared to the smaller VideoMic GO, the Rode VideoMic camera-mount shotgun microphone offers battery powering, extended low-end response, and customizable audio settings. Its switchable pad and bass roll-off optimize it for mobile journalists, vloggers, and run-and-gun shooters in loud or rumble-heavy environments.
This shotgun microphone features an integrated shockmount that mounts directly to your DSLR, mirrorless, or video camera and reduces noise from vibrations and camera handling. The windscreen design reduces wind noise, making it well suited for outdoor shoots. The attached 3.5mm TRS cable ensures easy hookup to your camera, and the dual-mono output means that no channel selection is necessary on your recording device.
Whereas most built-in camera microphones pick up sound from all directions, this microphone utilizes a supercardioid polar pattern to focus on sound in front of it while attenuating sound from the sides and rear. Its active electronics and directional condenser element deliver more detailed audio than the mics typically found in cameras and portable recorders.
A coiled 3.5mm cable is permanently attached to the mic for fast hookup to your camera. The cable's 3.5mm TRS plug is wired in a dual-mono configuration, ensuring that the mic signal is sent identically to both input channels of your camera or portable recorder.
Pop a 9V battery in the VideoMic for up to 100 hours of operating time. The dedicated power LED changes from green to red when the battery should be replaced. The VideoMic can still function for approximately one hour once the power indicator turns red, but performance will be compromised. Use the power switch to conserve battery life during periods of inactivity.
The high-pass filter can be set to flat or 80 Hz to roll off low-frequency noise from common sources such as air conditioners and traffic.
To protect against distortion, the VideoMic offers a pad that reduces the signal level. Switch to the -10 dB option when loud sound sources threaten to distort your recording, use the -20 dB position to prevent extreme input levels from clipping causing clipping, or select the flat setting when routing the mic into a dedicated high-quality preamp.
