Product highlights and buying context
The TS-873AeU-RP 8-Bay NAS Enclosure from QNAP provides users with a 2.2 GHz AMD Ryzen V1500B Quad-Core processor and dual 2.5GbE ports in a single chassis. Compared to its previous generation, the TS-873AeU-RP is enhanced with two M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 x1 ports for NVMe SSD caching or Edge TPU empowered AI image recognition. Hardware integrated with comprehensive software solutions makes the TS-873AeU-RP a solid choice for tackling resource-demanding applications and tasks, such as virtual machines or multi-user intensive access. The space-efficient short-depth, 2 RU design also makes it easy to install in small media cabinets or places with a lot of cabling.
The TS-873AeU-RP is powered by 4GB of DDR4 RAM, which can be upgraded to 64GB. This NAS also supports JBOD and a variety of RAID modes, including RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60, each of which offer data redundancy, speed, or a combination of both. Its eight drive bays have the ability to natively house both 3.5" and 2.5" SATA III and SATA II hard drives or SSDs, which can reach a throughput of up to 590 MB/s. Using the external 10 Gb/s USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C and Type-A ports, this QNAP NAS can be connected to other QNAP devices, as well as other external drives. Furthermore, a PCIe 3.0 x8 slot can be used to install a 25GbE/10GbE network card, QM2 M.2 SSD card, USB 3.2 Gen 2 card, or Fiber Channel card.
The TS-873AeU-RP 8-Bay NAS Enclosure can be used with either the QTS or QuTS hero OS. It operates on 100-240 VAC at 50-60 Hz using dual redundant 300W power supplies and stays cool using three 60mm fans. It includes an Ethernet cable, two power cords, sixteen screws for 3.5" drives, and twelve screws for 2.5" drives. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty.
The 2U rackmount TS-873AeU-RP has a short-depth design of only 11.7", making it an excellent choice for smaller racks, wall-mount AV rack cabinets, and network rack cabinets. The space saved by the short-depth design can be reserved for cabling or ventilation. The TS-873AeU-RP is space-saving for flexible deployment and is especially suitable for multiple locations and applications including offices, audiovisual rooms, and security surveillance recording.
Note: Users can purchase the optional RAIL-B02 rail kit to deploy the TS-873AeU-RP in a 19" rack following the ANSI/EIA-RS-310-D standard.
Powered by a 2.2 GHz AMD Ryzen V1500B Quad-Core processor with AES-NI encryption acceleration and 4GB of DDR4 RAM that can be upgraded to 64GB, the TS-873AeU-RP delivers aggressive, yet power-smart performance to drive resource-demanding business applications such as VDI, R&D, private cloud, and server virtualization.
When using both 2.5GbE ports, get download speeds of up to 548 MB/s, while upload speeds can reach 590 MB/s. When working with both 2.5GbE ports and encryption, download speeds remain the same, while upload speeds slightly drop to 586 MB/s.
The TS-873AeU-RP comes with two 2.5GbE RJ45 LAN ports that allow you to use existing Cat 5e cables to upgrade network speeds from 1GbE to 2.5GbE. 5GbE speeds can also be attained by using Port Trunking.
The 8-bay TS-873AeU-RP is equipped with two M.2 PCIe 3.0 x 1 slots, enabling cache acceleration or SSD storage pools for improved performance, or Edge TPU for AI image recognition.
Dual NVMe SSDs for Cache Accelerate or Efficient Tiered Storage
The TS-873AeU-RP supports SSD caching and features two M.2 slots that support M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe SSDs (sold separately) for boosting overall NAS performance. Qtier technology can also be used to empower the TS-873AeU-RP with auto tiering that helps continuously optimize storage efficiency across all installed storage devices.
Accelerate AI-Powered Image Recognition with TPU
By leveraging a Google Edge TPU to QNAP AI Core (the AI-powered engine for image recognition), the TS-873AeU-RP can perform high-speed face and object recognition. Google Edge TPU enables QuMagie to quickly process thousands of photos with high-speed AI Image recognition and classification, and QVR Face to analyze real-time video for instant facial recognition.
The TS-873AeU-RP has a PCIe 3.0 x8 slot that allows for installing various expansion cards for expanding application potential.
25GbE/10GbE Network Cards
Enable lightning-fast throughput for bandwidth-demanding tasks, such as virtualization, massive data transmission, and fast backup/restoration.
QM2 M.2 SSD Cards
Adds M.2 NVMe SSD caching or 10GbE/2.5GbE connectivity to the TS-873AeU-RP for optimized performance and bandwidth.
10 Gb/s USB 3.2 Gen 2 Cards
Add extra USB ports to the TS-873AeU-RP to enhance large media files transfer experience.
Common Fiber Channel Storage Area Networks (SAN) devices are often costly. By installing a QNAP dual-port 16Gb Fiber Channel expansion card in the TS-873AeU-RP, you have more budget-friendly options to add a NAS to a SAN environment. You can set a Fiber Channel Target using the iSCSI & Fiber Channel app. Moreover, the LUN Masking and Port Binding features provide an additional layer of data security.
The TS-873AeU-RP supports various apps that cover all your backup needs. Practice safe IT habits by regularly backing up files and device content, allowing them to be easily restored when needed.
PC/Laptop Backup
For Windows, install NetBak Replicator to back up your PC to your QNAP NAS. In macOS, just set up the built-in Time Machine to secure your data.
Remote Backup for NAS
Hybrid Backup Sync makes it easy to back up data from a TS-873AeU-RP to another QNAP NAS or remote server to fulfill your 3-2-1 backup strategy.
VM Backup
Enjoy license-free VMware and Hyper-V VM backup with source-side incremental backup, global deduplication, and recovery compression.
SaaS Backup
Safeguard enterprise cloud data by backing up/syncing files, emails, calendars, and contacts from Google Workspace and Microsoft Office 365 to the NAS.
Note: Minimum memory requirements are 2GB available and 4GB installed.
Cloud Backup for NAS
Hybrid Backup Sync supports mainstream cloud storage for NAS data backup. For backup to object cloud storage, VJBOD Cloud is especially useful to reduce bandwidth usage and backup time.
The TS-873AeU-RP supports block-based snapshots that record the state of the system at any time. It helps protect data, which can be restored back to a specific point of time, greatly helping in mitigating the threat of ransomware.
Volume and LUN Snapshots
Take snapshots in seconds and revert the entire volume/LUN back to a specific point in time to prevent loss of important data.
Instantly Restore Snapshots
Snapshot content can be quickly restored to a local NAS, or restored on a folder/file basis to a local/remote NAS or cloud storage. You can also conveniently view and restore snapshots from the client side.
The TS-873AeU-RP supports block-based iSCSI LUN as a reliable, high performance, and affordable storage solution for mainstream virtualization environments. It supports VMware VAAI and Microsoft ODX to increase performance by offloading server loading for ESXi server and Hyper-V respectively.
