Product highlights and buying context
Keep personal files safe from prying eyes and prevent sensitive information from being compromised with the 2TB Guardian USB 3.2 Gen 2 Portable SSD from OWC, which provides data security with smartphone-like ease of operation. It comes preformatted with Apple File System (APFS), allowing you to simply plug the Guardian into your Mac or iPad and drag and drop files and folders using its integrated color touchscreen. Data is automatically encrypted when written and decrypted when read using 256-bit AES OPAL hardware encryption. To further prevent unauthorized access, you'll be able to set up password access and attempts with a numeric PIN or passphrase.
The Guardian connects to your host device using a 10 Gb/s USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 connection that drives data transfers up to 1000 MB/s. It operates using bus power and has an anodized aluminum body that provides heat dissipation and impact protection. If you don't have a Mac or iPad, this SSD may be used with Windows, ChromeOS, and Android via a simple reformat. Included is a 19" USB-C cable.
Whether you want to keep personal files safe from prying eyes or have sensitive business information that cannot be compromised, the OWC Guardian offers peace of mind data security with smartphone-like ease of operation. Just connect the bus-powered OWC Guardian to any USB-C equipped Mac or iPad Pro, enter your password, and drag and drop files and folders with a gesture on the color touchscreen. Regardless of operating system, OWC Guardian automatically encrypts your data when writing and decrypts it when you need to read it. Even if your OWC Guardian is lost or stolen and the internal SSD is removed, your data cannot be accessed without the correct password.
While the OWC Guardian is ideal for keeping your data and content protected anywhere you travel, you can utilize its impressive performance to level up your portable productivity. With up to 1,000MB/s real-world read/write speed you can transfer huge files, back up data, and edit 4K videos in a flash.
With great protection comes great responsibility. The OWC Guardian gives you the power to configure multiple access settings to satisfy any data security requirement: * Choice of numeric PIN or a memorable passphrase with multi-password option to set separate admin and end-user access permissions * Configurable password lengths of 6-30 characters and 3-5 password attempts * Adjustable auto-timeout feature locks the drive * Randomized touchscreen layout and secure erasure for maximum protection of important files * Read-only mode offered so existing data cannot be modified or deleted * Secure-Erase the drive to wipe out all passwords and encryption capability
