Idea for a variety of sources in the studio, especially vocals, the MXL 770 is a cardioid large-diaphragm condenser mic that provides a solid, warm low-frequency response and a clear high end. With a low-noise FET preamp and balanced, transformerless output, the 770 offers smooth, noise-free audio and a wide dynamic range.
The 22mm gold-sputtered capsule provides a high max SPL of 137 dB, making the 770 suitable on loud vocals, guitar, strings, piano, and drums without issue. When signals get overly hot, the -10 dB pad keeps things in control. The mic also provides a 150 Hz low-frequency roll-off switch for eliminating unwanted rumbles. The 770 includes a hard carrying case and a shockmount.
The 770 features a bass roll-off switch to help reduce proximity effect. Proximity effect is distortion that often occurs when a sound source is too close to the mic. Some microphone patterns boost bass as you get closer to the microphone; cardioid mics, for instance, tend to boost bass. The bass roll-off switch reduces the low frequencies for a more full-range sound.
The 770 can be used in very loud sonic environments without significant distortion. If you hear distortion from the microphone, engage the -10 dB pad on the rear of the microphone.
