It reduces lens flare to maintain accurate exposures, and it protects against minor impacts or scratches. Screw the hood onto the front lens element via its robust bayonet mount. This lens hood also enables the use of 49mm filters and the use of the original lens cap. Additionally, the hood is reversible so you can reverse-mount it on the lens for compact storage.
