Product highlights and buying context
Designed for data intensive applications including AI/ML training, media post production, and enterprise backup solutions, the RocketStor 6542AW 8-Bay PCIe 4.0 x16 RAID Enclosure from HighPoint has eight 2.5" NVMe drive bays that can accommodate U.2 and U.3 SSDs. Connectivity with your host Windows or Linux system is established using a CDFP interface on the enclosure, plus an included Rocket 1544 adapter and CDFP cable. The adapter is installed within your host system using its PCIe 4.0 x16 interface and connects to the enclosure using a CDFP port. All in all, data transfers can reach as high as 32 GB/s, or 400 Gb/s. Other integrated ports include USB-C 2.0 for parameter settings and upgrades, 100Mb RJ45 for device monitoring, and a Kensington security slot. This enclosure supports RAID 0, 1, 10, and Single, while LED indicators, audible alarms, and fan controls help users monitor operations.
Whether handling read-intensive, write-intensive, or mixed-mode workloads, RocketStor 654x series RAID enclosures are up to the task. The ability to host up to 8 Data Center or Enterprise-class U.2/U.3 NVMe SSDs and deliver dedicated host-to-device PCIe Gen4 x16 transfer speeds in a robust, ultra-compact form-factor is perfect for data intensive applications including AI/ML training, media post production, and enterprise backup solutions.
Integrated PCIe switching technology and 400 Gb/s CDFP connectivity enables RocketStor 654x enclosures to maximize data transfer speed by fully utilizing all x16 lanes of PCIe bandwidth provided by the host platform.
Both the enclosure (device side) and PCIe adapter (host side), are equipped with dedicated PCIe switch ICs. This enables each solution to provide x16 lanes of dedicated PCIe Gen4 upstream bandwidth and x4 lanes of dedicated downstream bandwidth to each U.2 or U.3 SSD.
The RocketStor 654x series' robust, industrial-grade chassis was designed for professional applications that require a compact, flexible storage solution capable of maximizing the performance potential of 2.5" NVMe media. Despite the small hardware footprint, RocketStor 654x enclosures are equipped with up to 8 removable 2.5" drive bays, each of which can support today's dense 61.44TB enterprise and data center class SSDs.
Integrated NVMe hot-swap capability simplifies storage expansion, upgrade and service workflows by enabling administrators to add, remove, or replace U.2/U.3 media on the fly, minimizing the risk of downtime by removing the need to reboot or power down the host platform.
The external form factor, integrated power supply, and powerful cooling system enables NVMe media to be completely isolated from the host hardware platform. Not only does this free up interior space for the host server or workstation, it can improve the reliability and efficiency by reducing power consumption and ensuring that waste heat generated by storage media never enters the computing environment.
A dedicated PSU offsets power consumption from the host platform.
The external form factor enhances reliability by ensuring that the waste heat generated by the NVMe media never enters the computing environment.
The RocketStor 654x Series advanced suite of sensors and LED indicators were designed to streamline service and management workflows. These integrated, self-diagnostic, and monitoring services actively survey and report the status of the CDFP connection, PCIe lane assignment of the adapter, enclosure/SSD temperature, and the condition/status of SSDs and RAID arrays. Each service works in conjunction with the WebGUI & CLI software management suites.
A wide range of professional applications and workflows can benefit from this storage solution:
