Product highlights and buying context
The DPA MMB6388 6388 CORE+ Directional Miniature Microphone Boom with TA4F Connector is the modular boom and microphone capsule section of the 6388 CORE+ headset, engineered for demanding live environments where speech intelligibility, isolation, and feedback rejection are essential. Designed for theater, houses of worship, live performances, corporate events, conferences, broadcast, and sports production, it combines DPA’s CORE+ capsule technology with an advanced supercardioid design to deliver natural voice reproduction and consistent performance, even in sonically difficult spaces.
The MMB6388 mic boom is designed to be paired with the updated dual-ear Act Headset Frame (available separately) that builds on DPA's proven headset design with improvements that enhance comfort, appearance, and reliability.
Unlike omnidirectional headsets that excel in controlled environments, the 6388 is built for situations where ambient noise, audience presence, stage bleed, reflections, or PA feedback can compromise intelligibility. Its advanced directional design provides strong isolation and excellent gain-before-feedback while maintaining natural, authentic voice reproduction.
The supercardioid capsule maintains controlled directivity across the frequency spectrum, including high frequencies, helping achieve predictable off-axis rejection and exceptional gain-before-feedback. A shifted acoustical axis and partially asymmetrical capsule design allow the microphone to be positioned slightly to the side of the mouth while maintaining optimal pickup, making performance less dependent on precise placement and delivering more consistent results between users.
The 6388 boom microphone features DPA's CORE+ capsule technology, delivering outstanding speech intelligibility with low distortion and consistent tonal balance. The electret-condenser microphone is optimized for placement approximately 1.2 inches from the corner of the mouth, providing a frequency response of 100 Hz to 18 kHz (±2 dB) with a subtle 1 dB presence boost at 14 kHz for added vocal clarity. The mic can handle SPLs up to 140 dB SPL RMS and 143 dB SPL peak before producing < 1% distortion. Even peak levels up to 144 dB SPL produce only 10% distortion, making it well suited to a variety of presenters and performers.
Shure: works with Shure transmitters equipped with a TA4M connector, including the AD1, ADX1, AXT100TA4M, BLX1, GLXD1, MXW1, PGXD1, QLXD1, SLX1, SLXD1, ULX1, and ULXD1. Also supports Line 6 and TOA transmitters.
Designed for demanding production environments, the boom features IP58-certified resistance to humidity and dust, a durable construction, and a serviceable design that supports long product life. A 90-degree cable management system reduces strain at the boom-to-cable transition, improving durability while simplifying daily handling and setup.
