Unique, Hypercardioid Double-Ribbon Microphone Known as a "Gem"

The multi-award-winning Beyerdynamic M 160 dynamic double-ribbon hypercardioid microphone is a masterpiece of sound engineering and meticulous craftsmanship. Each unit is carefully handmade, combining exceptional technical innovation with artisanal quality. Revered as a true "gem," the M 160 has contributed to countless hit records with its remarkably neutral sound character and minimal tonal coloration. The M 160 excels at capturing the raw power of drums and amplifiers as well as the nuanced tones of acoustic guitars, brass, and strings. Its wide frequency response and fine detail ensure precise bass, warm mids, and silky, elegant trebles that blend seamlessly for a distinct and unparalleled sonic signature. Ideally suited for studio recording, the M 160 also excels in live settings.

A Very Special Hypercardioid Pattern

• The M 160 stands out as the only double-ribbon microphone on the market, featuring a hypercardioid polar pattern. The mic's specialized design focuses on capturing sound from the front while effectively reducing most signals from the sides and minimizing rear pickup by 25 dB at 110 and 250°.
• This exceptional rear attenuation ensures outstanding channel separation, enabling the warm, rich tone of a ribbon microphone to be utilized in entirely new recording scenarios.

Exceptional for Drums

• Whether used as an overhead, on the hi-hat, or as a room microphone, the M 160 excels in drumkit miking. It handles sharp sounds like cymbals with remarkable balance, avoiding harshness while retaining clarity.
• The lightweight dual ribbons ensure high impulse fidelity, capturing strong attacks with precision and delivering a quick transient response, ideal for the dynamic demands of percussion recording.

Tames Harsh Tones

• The M 160 is a superb choice for capturing electric guitar amps. Its hypercardioid polar pattern combines with its distinct tonal character to deliver a warm yet natural sound.
• Capable of handling the high sound pressure levels of guitar amps with ease, the M 160 produces a signal that’s clean, rich, and ready for further processing.

Compact, Lightweight, and Built to Last

• With its compact size and lightweight design, the M 160 offers unparalleled ease of positioning in any recording or live sound scenario.
• Despite being a ribbon microphone, it boasts exceptional durability, making it one of the rare few suited for use on loud, high-energy live stages.
• This iconic microphone now comes securely housed in a rugged hard case, ensuring safe storage and transport.

Exquisite Craftsmanship: Handmade in Germany

• The M 160 epitomizes exceptional craftsmanship and engineering. Every detail, from the precise width of its dual, hand-stamped pure aluminum ribbons to their meticulous placement within the magnet gap, is executed with millimeter precision and subjected to rigorous testing for optimal vibration behavior.
• By manufacturing key components such as the microphone grille and transformer in-house, Beyerdynamic maintains unwavering control over their exacting quality standards. This dedication extends to the company's choice of specialists, as producing the M 160 demands extraordinary skill and precision. Each microphone is a testament to precision and excellence, proudly made in Germany.
