Product highlights and buying context
Sometimes called a space light, the Angler Cylinder Omni Softbox is ideal for most 18 to 20" Round LED Lights and lives up to that description by dispersing a 360-degree beam spread of illumination over a wide area of space when suspended by a boom or hung overhead. The Cylinder is ideal for raising the ambient light level to tame aggressively used kickers or other accent lights as well as opening up shadows to reveal details, but this is just one of the effects that this modifier will deliver. The Cylinder and its circular bottom are made from translucent polyester, but for those who want a little crispness without sacrificing the omni-directional light, the bottom diffuser zips off completely.
Yet another quality-of-light possibility is provided by an optional skirt - basically a form-fitting, black fabric that blocks the emitted light from one side of the Cylinder to add direction or a light-to-dark ratio. This particular skirt however, has a silver interior that reflects the blocked light through the open side, maximizing its output. Purchase of a second skirt will allow you to completely encircle the Cylinder, casting all of the output downward in a crisp circle of light, or a soft one depending on whether or not you use the bottom diffuser. With omni-directional and directed light, soft or crisp output, or a combination of all of these types together, the Cylinder Omni Softbox is more than a modifier - it's a light transformer.
Ideal for raising the ambient light level to take the edge off of aggressively used accent, sidelights, or hair lights, the Cylinder Omni Softbox opens up shadows and lowers contrast to a manageable level.
One of the handy features of the Cylinder is its zippered, removable bottom diffusion panel, for image makers who require a more pronounced pool of light under the fixture without sacrificing the 360-degree spread.
Imagine the challenge of lighting a large dinner hall populated numerous guests. Depending on the size of the room 2, 3, or several Cylinder Omni Softboxes can be the solution. All the details of the scene are illuminated, shadows softened, and the bottom diffusion panel can be removed on some of the lights to add dimension to the scene.
Another way to modify the Cylinder's output is the separately-purchased skirt - basically a form-fitting, black cloth that blocks the light from being emitted from one side (or 180-degrees) of the Cylinder to add direction or a light-to-dark ratio. This particular skirt however, has a silver interior that reflects the blocked light through the open side, maximizing its output.
Purchase of a second skirt will allow you to completely encircle the Cylinder Omni Softbox, casting all of the output downward in a crisp circle of light, or a soft one depending on whether or not you use the bottom diffuser.
