Product highlights and buying context
Make the mounting of your AIM Audio mics easier than ever with Orbit, a shockmount designed for the Essence and Inspire mics, that offers an easy slide-in clamp system and anti-vibration rubber material with non-sagging lyres for effective elimination of unwanted rumbles. Along with 190° angle adjustment, this shockmount makes it easy to position mics for any application.
A removable cable-relief clip keeps your mic cable neat and tidy and removes any possibility of handling noise interrupting your recording. The open-front design makes accessing controls and close miking a cinch. The included reversible Sentry pop filter features specially designed holes for controlling airflow and reducing plosives. The pop filter attaches with ease thanks to a magnetic mounting system. Both the shockmount and pop filter are constructed from glass-reinforced nylon, which provides excellent durability and a light weight. Orbit includes a Magnetic Resorber Ring for reducing resonance of the shockmount when the Sentry pop filter is not being used.
Just like with AIM Audio's microphones, Orbit has had years of development in working out how to make a better shockmount. In addition, to get closer to sound source and to make the controls on the microphone easily accessible (especially when the mic is in the cradle), they settled on a half-open/open-front design. From the easy to use and secure sliding clamping mechanism, right to the type of suspension, everything has been developed from the ground up.
After very many hours of physical testing, AIM chose to not use the regular rubber-band style of elastics that have become the traditional and most common way to suspend a mic cradle. Essentially, not only do these sag over time, but they can also introduce all sorts of resonances. So, in the lengthy process of design, they developed their own solid nylon-based lyres to for optimal shock absorption.
With the patented Orbit mechanism, you can easily change the angle of the mounting position by 190°, to suit whatever direction you want to aim the capsule at. Side mounting, front, back, or any position in between, the twist clamp mechanism can be operated single handily, while the mic stays secure in the custom clamp.
This also makes Orbit great for overheads, in front of instruments, or for miking up amps, etc. Topping off the features, the integrated removable cable-relief helps to reduce rumble and handling noise.
For those times you don't need a pop filter, AIM Audio developed the Magnetic Resorber Ring. This just drops onto the top when not using the Sentry, the magnets will do the rest for you and give the best audio performance.
Super sturdy, both Orbit and Sentry are also made out of glass-reinforced nylon, which not only helps in reducing material noise, but it also helps make them less likely to be susceptible to breakage. This means in the course of setting them up (or accidently dropping on a solid floor, for example) it shouldn't result in the mount being heavily damaged, although like with all pro audio gear, you should still treat them with care.
